Dear
Grower:
Thank
you for your interest in our buckwheat program this season.
I
know, for many, last years less than favorable weather conditions
were disastrous for their buckwheat crop. Indeed, our records
indicate it was one of the worst harvests in recent history.
If
there are any silver linings to come out of it, the reduction
of harvested grain has reduced the carry-overs, which has
resulted in a higher price again this year for contracted
buckwheat.
Our
contracted price this year will be $12.00 per cwt. and will
be a guaranteed full production contract.
Please
find enclosed a sample copy of our 2005 buckwheat contract.
After review, if you would like to contract with us, the following
procedures will apply.

Actual
contracts can only be obtained at the time you pick up
and lease Koto buckwheat seed. |

2.
|
|
The
Birkett Mills contracts are 100% production contracts
at a guaranteed price of $12.00 per cwt. |

3.
|
|
The
Birkett Mills needs are limited and seed will be available
on a first come, first serve basis starting May 1, 2005
at The Birkett Mills' Transloading Facility on North Avenue,
Penn Yan, NY, (Ph. 315-536-2594) Monday through Friday,
8:00 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. |

4.

|
Koto
variety buckwheat seed is $16.00 per 50 lb. bag to lease
and must be paid for at the time of pick up. Because contracts
usually go fast, it is a good idea to call and reserve
your seed in advance. NOTE: SEED CAN BE RESERVED FOR A
MAXIMUM OF SEVEN DAYS! If you do not pick up your seed
within a week from the time you call, the seed may be
sold to others. |

Organic
Contracts: If you are already certified organic and have
a minimum of 50 acres that you would like to raise buckwheat
on, please call our office regarding a Certified Organic Contract.
We have a limited quantity of certified organic Koto seed
so please call as soon as possible for details. Please remember
that your land must be already certified organic and you must
have at least 50 acres for buckwheat planting. We have no
details on what is required for organic certification of property,
so if you are not currently certified organic, please contact
your local extension agent for information.
